It's tough for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the record chasers, are what's still available for a squad that has accomplished all there is.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to maintain a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Finally, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to create her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory arrived three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have come from 10 efforts across formats.

That loss "motivated us to rethink our standards," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fail again.

If this latest epic knock topped that previous effort can be debated.

Many contend the case for championship match pressure. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this knock was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it has been a disappointing period because I feel like I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your fighting spirit take over and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and from there Healy was underway.

"A chance to play and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

By the time she was dismissed Australia needed 66 more at run per delivery - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the assurance to do that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if necessary, we are confident we can do it."

That comment will be the last rival teams at this championship need to hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has only strengthened - this triumph following win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

During that phase they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she regretted not playing despite the injury.

However although she later admitted those physical issues have delayed plans to retire, this World Cup is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as skipper.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
