Automobiles in Germany's City Found Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.

Police then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.

A senior political figure said the incident made him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
